The coves and beaches of Moraira:

If there is one thing that makes the town of Moraira stand out, apart from the charm of each of its narrow streets in the town centre or the marvellous views offered by its seafront promenade, it is its acclaimed coastline. Moraira is one of the favourite tourist destinations on the Costa Blanca to enjoy the best version of the Mediterranean Sea.

You will be able to enjoy the turquoise and transparent water that characterises most of the coves and beaches of Moraira.

Nautical activities, such as scuba diving or snorkelling, are another of the great attractions offered by this small and charming town in Alicante to lovers of the sea and nature. In its well-kept waters, lovers of water sports and activities can contemplate a rich and varied seabed worthy of the best documentary.

Moraira has 8 kilometres of coastline with its sandy beaches and secluded and paradisiacal coves. All of them have lifeguard and security services during the busiest hours of the day, from morning until late afternoon.

Llebeig cove:

Llebeig cove is one of the most special coves in the town as it is the most difficult to access, making it one of the least crowded and preferred for those who wish to spend a day at the beach with stunning views and a crystal clear sea without the crowds of tourists found in the other coastal areas of the town.

There are two options to reach this hidden and beautiful rocky cove; via the Moraig cove (Benitachell) along the so-called Route of the Cliffs or via the Barranc de la Viuda (from Moraira). It can only be reached on foot or by sea from other beaches or coves. It is not accessible by any other type of vehicle and the route on foot is not suitable for everyone, as it runs along a path with somewhat dangerous sections, bordering the cliffs.

However, the views and scenery are breathtaking and a real treat for the senses. It is well worth the effort to enjoy one of the most charming areas of the town. Cala Llebeig is one of the favourite coves for hiking enthusiasts, as it is reached via one of the most spectacular and recommended routes along the coast of Alicante.

The Cap Blanc Cove or Punta Estrella:

Cala Cap Blanc, 200 metres long and 8 metres wide, is also known by the name of Punta Estrella and is one of the most unknown coves in the town as it is located in an abrupt area. Cap Blanc is also a great option for those who wish to enjoy a pleasant day of swimming without the crowds of tourists, as it is usually less crowded than the rest of the beaches in the town due to its difficult access. In addition, it is also a bathing area recommended for water sports such as fishing, diving or snorkelling due to the depth of its waters.

The L'Andragó cove

Cala L'Andragó, in addition to its crystal clear waters and its perfect state of maintenance and conservation, l'Andragó cove is home to a viewpoint where you can contemplate beautiful views of the town of Moraira and its emblematic 18th century watchtower. It is not surprising, then, that it is also one of the favourite coves for photography lovers.

In this cove you will find several restaurants where you can enjoy the gastronomy of the area and thus complete a wonderful day at the beach with family or friends. It is also a great cove for open-air sports such as scuba diving or snorkelling, as its crystal-clear waters allow a full view of its rich seabed.

From its viewpoint you can also watch the sunset on long summer days with dreamlike views.

Les Platgetes:

Les Platgetes, formed by two small coves of sand and rock joined together. One of its main attractions are the beautiful views of the coast that can be seen from its viewpoint, located on a landscaped promenade where there is parking for vehicles and some restaurant areas and basic services for bathers, such as toilets, wooden walkways to the beach, beach umbrella hire, lifeguard service to attend to any emergency and even an access channel to the sea for small boats.

Les Platgetes is also a recommended place for water sports.

L'Ampolla Beach

L'Ampolla in Moraira is one of the most beautiful beaches on the Costa Blanca due to its privileged location, next to the Marjal del Senillar and at the foot of the Cap D'Or castle and watchtower, and its impressive views of the Ifach rock. As it is located within the urban area of the town, it is fully accessible and has a large parking area for vehicles.

The Portixol Cove

Portixol Cove is located on the way to Portet Beach from Moraira, opposite the mouth of the town's Yacht Club and is ideal for fishing or water sports such as snorkelling or scuba diving thanks to its crystal clear and very clean waters.

It is one of the quietest coves in Moraira, as it is hidden and frequented only by locals and is not as touristy as others. Therefore, it is ideal for those seeking peace and quiet and disconnection in a paradisiacal place.

Playa El Portet:

El Portet beach, during the months of July and August, its occupancy is quite high, being one of the busiest beaches next to L'Ampolla due to its proximity to the town centre of the town.

It is considered a semi-urban beach and is bordered by a beautiful promenade. During the months of July and August, in order to guarantee the best possible service for bathers and visitors, Portet beach offers a multitude of services, such as toilets, walkways to the sea, canoe and canoe rental area, storage of objects, showers and a lifeguard and lifeguard area to attend to any incident or emergency on the spot.

WALKING ROUTES IN Teulada-Moraira

As well as enjoying incredible beaches and paradisiacal coves, the Alicante town of Teulada-Moraira offers other types of activities for lovers of outdoor sports, nature, landscapes and hiking.

Whether you love the sea or the mountains, Moraira - Teulada has a multitude of hiking routes to discover another version of this area of the Marina Alta coastline and to get to know this coastal town, its history and its most hidden landscapes in greater depth.

1. Cliffs Route:

Due to the spectacular scenery along this route along the cliffs, from Moraig cove (Benitachell) to Llebeig cove (Moraira), this is one of the favourite routes for hiking and nature lovers. There are few routes that pass through such incredible places with postcard views.

This walking route is considered a short route, as it is about 9 kilometres each way and takes approximately one hour on the outward journey and a little less on the return journey.

It is of medium difficulty, as there are some slippery stretches along the way and the route, which runs along a cliff, is not adapted. Therefore, this route is suitable for people in good physical condition and who are used to doing this type of mountain trekking.

Along the way, hikers will find numerous caves where they can take short breaks and take shelter from the intense sun on summer days. The lack of shady areas and the high temperatures mean that it is not advisable to do this route during the hottest hours of the day. In summer, it is preferable to enter it in the afternoon or early in the day.

2. Barranc de la Viuda - Llebeig Cove - Moraig Cove

Another option for reaching Llebeig cove from Moraira is via the Barranc de la Viuda ravine, a route that can be completed by reaching Moraig cove. In total, there are about 10.9 kilometres round trip and it takes just under 2 hours.

In the town of Moraira just follow the Camí de la Viuda and, almost at the end of the road, you can leave your car in the parking area provided. To get to the path that starts the Barranc de la Viuda route, you have to go down Gaviota street.

The path is duly signposted with signs and arrows painted on the ground and on the rocks. The first section, until you reach Llebeig de Moraira cove, is not difficult at all, as the path is in perfect condition, although you do have to negotiate the occasional stone dragged along by the water.

The coastal viewpoints

It is a route of about 5 km. The route of the viewpoints runs along the coastline of the municipalities near Moraira and passes by the five most recommended viewpoints with stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea. The route starts at El Portet Beach and ends at Tunis Street; a walking route that will leave you open-mouthed in front of the panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea. If you leave El Portet beach on the right and continue up the ramp, without leaving this path, you will reach the Portixol viewpoint. From this viewpoint you will be able to contemplate the Peñón d'Ifach and the Club Náutico. A good moment to have a drink of water and go down the stairs to see the Portitxolet cove.

Leaving the Portitxol viewpoint behind and continuing along the same road, you reach the esplanade of Moraira Castle, with its spectacular viewpoint overlooking the Ifach Rock, which is on the right hand side.

The viewpoint of Les Tosquetes i L'Ampolla, the next one if we continue along the same promenade, offers us another panoramic view of Calpe and its Ifach rock. If we continue on we reach the last viewpoint on the route, the l'Andragó viewpoint with views of its spectacular cove of crystalline waters and the town of Moraira, with its spectacular tower in the background. The walk ends in calle Túnez.

THE TOWN of Teulada-Moraira

The Iberian culture, very present in this area, gave way to the Romans, who may well have given the name Teulada and Moraira to these two towns.

Finally, and after them, came the Muslims, to whom we owe much of the terraced landscape that characterises this beautiful town and some of the toponyms that name the different parts of the municipality.

If you come to Teulada, the town centre of Moraira, don't miss the following places:

The Font Santa hermitage.

According to tradition, the saint passed through the town of Teulada to visit his sister Constanza. During one of their walks together through the town, Constanza became thirsty. Therefore, and to quench his sister's thirst, Sant Vicent Ferrer made water flow at this point.

To pay homage to this miracle, the Font Santa was built, a fountain where water never stops gushing.

The Font Santa hermitage is located three kilometres from the municipality and was last restored in 1975.

The historic centre of Teulada:

Getting lost in the network of streets and white houses that make up the historic quarter of the municipality of Teulada is another of the great attractions for its visitors.

Around the church of Santa Catalina, there is a whole network of charming cobbled streets.

Amongst the many historic and interesting buildings that can be found in the historic quarter, the following stand out:

Casa Presor
Parish Church of Santa Catalina
Chapel of Sant Vicent Ferrer
The Chapel of the Divina Pastora
The Sala de Jurats i Justicies, among others.

La Villa', as this group of streets in the historic quarter is known, was once surrounded by a wall.

One of the most recommended walks to get to know and enjoy the historic centre of Teulada is the one that starts in the Plaza de la Constitución, where you can stroll through the narrow streets and observe the typical whitewashed houses and the different historic buildings.

The Teulada Auditorium

It was inaugurated around 2011 and since then it has been intoxicating all those who have passed in front of an iconic building of the region built by the technical architect Francisco Robado Beloqui.

Moraira Castle

The Castle is undoubtedly one of the hallmarks of Moraira due to its privileged location, on a rocky elevation next to L'Ampolla Beach and with incredible views of Calpe's Ifach Rock.

The castle of Moraira with its Cap D'Or watchtower was built in the mid 18th century to protect and safeguard the population of Moraira from pirates.

Nowadays, the building can be seen in its entirety, as it is in a very good state of conservation.

The coat of arms of the Bourbons, which can be seen on the entrance door and which dates from 1742, the year in which the work was completed, is particularly noteworthy.

The Moraira Marina and fishing port:

Moraira's marina is one of the most important in the Valencian Community although, without a doubt, we recommend you visit the fishing port for its tradition and contribution to the economic development of the town.

The fishermen's guild of Moraira was founded in 1929, although its facilities have been renovated and improved over the years.

Today, it is still possible to watch the fish and seafood auction in public.

Thanks to this, the restaurants in the coastal area of the town serve fresh fish and seafood every day, offering yet another reason to visit the town and sample its gastronomy.
